500 Diabetics Dying Each Week Posted on October 29, 2018
Picture 1 – If we want to prevent diseases like diabetes, exercise form a major part for preventive measures, besides diet and lifestyle changes.
I am trying to get current facts and figures on diabetes in Singapore and on mortality. Nevertheless, I realised that in the Telegraph newspaper, there has been reports on deaths where complication could be ‘avoidable’ in U.K.
There are avoidable complications such as amputations, sight loss, kidney disease, stroke and heart disease that contributes to around 500 deaths a week, according to the charity Diabetes UK.
The most common complications of diabetes which can lead to premature death are stroke and cardiovascular disease.
Picture 2 – Running is one exercise that helps in preventing diabetes
The report by NHS found that people between the ages of 35 and 64 living with type 1 diabetes are three to four times more likely to die prematurely than those without the condition. At the same time, comparatively, those in the same age range who have type 2 diabetes are up to two times more likely to die prematurely.
People with type 1 diabetes, it has been found that, the body does not produce insulin as a result of the immune system incorrectly targeting insulin-producing cells in the pancreas, whereas with type 2 diabetes, which affects the majority of patients, insulin is produced but the body loses its ability to respond to it.
Both forms of condition may lead one to chronically have high blood sugar levels that can increase the risk of complications in a patient.
Picture 3 – Flexifitness, does not just believe in performance in running and fitness, but our focus is on health as well.
It has been reported that since 2017, the NHS Diabetes Transformation Fund has invested more than £80 million across England to improve the care people with diabetes receive.
The authorities feel that in order to reduce the number of people with diabetes dying early and unnecessarily the investment in it and work started to prevent in 2017 needs to be continued.
We, in Flexifitness believe that one of the way to prevent premature death from diabetes is to do continue with active lifestyle, and active aging.
