Picture 1 – Hong Kong Marathon

It was in 1990, that I ran the Hong Kong Marathon, while my friend, Balasundram, ran in the Pacific Rim Marathon.

Both Bala and I were actually training partners and we used to do very intensive training together. Bala got the first choice to Pacific Rim California Marathon. Hong Kong was a second choice for me. In those days, selection was more transparent.

However, while I did 2hr 31min in Hong Kong, Bala did 2hr 33min. The Singapore Athletics selected me for the South East Asia Games in Manila because of this. Bala was not selected and he felt discouraged and he lost interest in running.

I am going for the Hong Kong StanChart 2018, after I had an injury just before the StanChart Marathon 2017.

I had to rest for six weeks. With minimal training, I am aiming for a sub 3hr 55min, to be conditioned so that I can attempt the sub – 3hrs soon in coming overseas race, few months from now.
